Milan Design Week by Car: Rho, Brera and Tortona in One Day

Every April, Milan becomes the meeting point of the design world. The Salone del Mobile.Milano fills the exhibition halls of Fiera Milano in Rho, while the Fuorisalone spreads installations, showrooms and parties across the city's design districts. For the 2027 edition, the organisers have announced the Salone from 13 to 18 April at Fiera Milano Rho, with the Fuorisalone running across the city in the same week. Seeing both, efficiently, is the challenge.

Two different worlds in one week

The Salone is a trade fair: large halls, long walks, scheduled meetings with manufacturers, and a site outside the city centre. The Fuorisalone is the opposite: dozens of locations in neighbourhoods such as Brera, Tortona and Isola, many of them open in the evening, with queues for the most popular installations. Most visitors want to do some of each, often on the same day, and that means moving between Rho and the city at the busiest hours.

How long it takes

On an ordinary weekday morning, Google Maps puts the drive from the Duomo area to Fiera Milano at around 35 minutes, and from Malpensa or Linate at about half an hour. During the Salone, traffic around the fair and on the roads into Milan increases significantly, especially at opening and closing times. A realistic plan allows more time than the map suggests and avoids moving at the moment when tens of thousands of visitors do the same.

A sample day

A typical design-week day for our clients starts with an early arrival at Rho, before the morning peak, for meetings with manufacturers. Around mid-afternoon the car collects you at the gate you choose and drives you into the city for the Fuorisalone, starting with a district where you have an appointment, then moving to the next. In the evening the same car takes you to dinner or to a launch event and back to your hotel. With an hourly booking, the driver stays nearby all day, so you do not have to look for a taxi at the fair exit.

Choosing your entrance at the fair

Fiera Milano has several entrances, and the right one depends on which halls you are visiting. Tell your driver which pavilions are on your list and they will choose the drop-off and pickup point that minimises walking. Agree a meeting time and place before you go in; mobile coverage inside crowded halls is not always reliable.

Fuorisalone districts by car

In the city, a car is most useful for moving between districts rather than within them. Brera's streets are narrow and best explored on foot; Tortona's spaces are close together; Isola is easy to walk once you are there. Your driver drops you at the edge of each district and collects you at the next agreed point, which saves the walk between areas that are several kilometres apart.

Teams and groups

Design firms, architects and retailers often visit as a team. The Mercedes V-Class carries up to seven people with bags and catalogues, and the Sprinter Luxury VIP up to eight, so the whole group travels and talks together. For a delegation with different agendas, two cars on the same booking can split during the day and meet again for dinner.

Book early and keep it flexible

Design Week is one of the busiest periods of the year for chauffeur services in Milan. Book as soon as your dates are confirmed, and tell us if your schedule is still provisional: an hourly booking leaves you free to change the order of visits during the day. Prices are fixed in writing before the week, with VAT, fuel and parking included.

Arriving from the airport

If you arrive during the week, your driver tracks your flight and can take you straight to the fair rather than to the hotel first. From Malpensa, Rho is on the way into Milan, which makes a direct arrival at the Salone a common choice.
