Monza Grand Prix Weekend: Getting to the Circuit

The Italian Grand Prix at Monza is one of the oldest and most atmospheric races on the Formula 1 calendar. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza sits inside the walled park of Monza, a short drive north-east of Milan, and every September it draws huge crowds from Italy and abroad. According to the official circuit announcement, the 2027 race weekend runs from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 September 2027, and includes a Sprint race. If you are going, planning your transport is as important as choosing your grandstand.

How far Monza is

On an ordinary weekday morning, Google Maps gives about 40 minutes from Linate to the circuit, around 50 minutes from the centre of Milan and about an hour from Malpensa. These times describe a normal day. On race weekend, especially on Saturday and Sunday, the roads around Monza and the park are far busier, and access to the circuit follows the plan published by the organisers for each edition.

What changes on race weekend

During the Grand Prix, traffic around the park builds early in the morning and peaks again after the race, when a large crowd leaves at the same time. Some roads near the park are closed or reserved, and drop-off points for private vehicles are defined by the organisers. Our drivers follow the official access plan for the year and choose the approach based on your ticket and gate. The most important decision is the departure time: leaving early in the morning avoids the worst of the queues.

After the race

The hour after the chequered flag is the hardest moment of the weekend. Thousands of spectators head for the exits, the railway station and the car parks at once. With a booked car, you agree a meeting point and time with your driver before you go in. Many guests choose to wait a little after the race, watch the podium or have a drink, and leave once the first wave has passed. Your driver waits for you; there is no need to rush.

Staying in Milan or on Lake Como

Most visitors stay in Milan and travel to Monza each day. Others combine the race with a stay on Lake Como, which is a little over an hour from Monza by car in normal traffic. With a chauffeur, both work well: the car collects you at your hotel, takes you to the circuit and brings you back in the evening, so you can enjoy dinner without worrying about driving.

Hourly or transfers

For race days, there are two common options. A transfer to the circuit in the morning and a pickup after the race works if your times are clear. An hourly booking, with a minimum of four hours, keeps the car available for the whole day, which is useful if you plan to leave early, change plans or go on to dinner. For a full weekend, we can quote all three days together.

Choosing the vehicle

For a couple, a Mercedes E-Class or S-Class is ideal. For families or groups of friends, the Mercedes V-Class carries up to seven, and the Sprinter Luxury VIP up to eight, so everyone arrives and leaves together. Groups with hospitality passes often prefer one larger vehicle rather than several cars that have to meet at the same gate.

Arriving by air

If you fly in for the race, Linate is the closest airport to Monza. Malpensa and Bergamo also work, with slightly longer drives. Your driver tracks your flight and can take you directly to your hotel or, on race day, straight to the circuit.

Book well in advance

Grand Prix weekend is one of the busiest of the year for transport around Milan. As soon as you have your tickets, ask us for a quote. Prices are fixed in writing and include VAT, fuel, tolls and parking, so the cost of the weekend is clear long before September.
