Milan to Lake Garda, Any Shore, Door to Door

Sirmione is quick, the west shore takes longer

Lake Garda is the closest of the big lakes to Milan by motorway: about 130 km to Sirmione, at the southern end, in well under two hours. The western shore is a different drive. After Salò the lakeside road runs through villages and short tunnels, and in summer it is slow, so Gardone Riviera or Gargnano can take an extra half hour or more. We drive to Villa Cortine Palace in Sirmione, the Grand Hotel Fasano in Gardone, and Villa Feltrinelli and the Lefay Resort near Gargnano. In summer an evening at the Verona Arena opera festival is about forty minutes from the southern shore and can be booked with the same car. The S-Class suits a couple; the V-Class takes a family. From Malpensa, add about twenty-five minutes.
