Along the Riviera, into the Principality
Monte Carlo is about 305 km from Milan. The motorway runs south to Genoa and then west along the Ligurian coast through a long series of tunnels and viaducts, crossing into France just before Monaco. The coastal motorway carries heavy traffic in summer and on holiday weekends, so we plan departures around it. During the Grand Prix in late spring and the Monaco Yacht Show in September, roads in the Principality close or change direction and hotels fill early; book the car at the same time as the room. We drop at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, the Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo and the Monte-Carlo Bay, or at the port if you are joining a yacht. The S-Class suits two; families travel in the V-Class. From Malpensa the time is about the same.
