Day by day
Day 1
Milan to Portofino
Driving: about 2 h 30 min, 173 km
South across the Apennines to the Ligurian coast and along the bay to Portofino. The village restricts traffic, so your driver stops as close to the harbour or your hotel as the rules allow and carries the luggage the rest of the way.
Day 2
A day in Portofino
A walk up to the castle and the lighthouse, a boat to the abbey of San Fruttuoso in its small cove, or a day in Santa Margherita. The car is available for a dinner elsewhere on the coast.
Day 3
Portofino to Monaco
Driving: about 3 h, 214 km
West along the Ligurian coast past Genoa and Sanremo, into France and on to Monaco. The coastal motorway is a long series of tunnels and viaducts with the sea alongside.
Day 4
A day in Monaco
The Prince's Palace on the Rock, the Oceanographic Museum, the harbour and the Casino square. Monaco is small and steep; your driver takes you between the levels and waits while you visit.
Day 5
Monaco to Nice, by way of Èze
Driving: about 30 min direct, 21 km
A short driving day with a stop in Èze, a medieval village perched above the sea, before arriving in Nice: the old town, the market on the Cours Saleya and the Promenade des Anglais.
Day 6
Nice to Cannes
Driving: about 50 min, 33 km
West to Cannes, with time for Antibes on the way. The Croisette, the old quarter of Le Suquet and the boats to the Lérins Islands fill the afternoon.
Day 7
Cannes to Nice airport, or back to Milan
Driving: about 35 min to Nice airport, or about 4 h 25 min to Milan
The tour ends at Nice Côte d'Azur airport for your flight, or with the drive back to Milan along the coast.
Recommended vehicle
Couples usually choose the Mercedes S-Class; the V-Class is useful if you travel with more luggage. Families and friends take the Sprinter Luxury VIP, up to eight passengers. On the narrow road to Portofino a smaller car stops more easily, and we take that into account.
