Driving times are Google Maps estimates for a weekday in normal traffic. Every day can be changed: the route below is a starting point.

Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Milan to Verona

    Driving: about 2 h 05 min, 156 km

An easy start: the motorway east to Verona. The Roman arena, Piazza delle Erbe and the streets around Juliet's house are all within a short walk of each other. In summer the arena hosts its opera festival.

  2. Day 2

    Verona to Val Gardena

    Driving: about 2 h 25 min, 187 km

North up the Adige valley and into the Dolomites, ending in Ortisei, the main village of Val Gardena. Wood carving, mountain lifts and long views of the Sassolungo.

  3. Day 3

    A day in Val Gardena

Lifts climb to the Seceda ridge and to the Alpe di Siusi, a vast high meadow with views across the range. Walking, a lunch at a mountain hut, or skiing in winter. The car is there if you want to explore the neighbouring valleys.

  4. Day 4

    Val Gardena to Cortina d'Ampezzo

    Driving: about 1 h 50 min, 65 km

A short distance but a slow, beautiful road through the passes, with stops for photographs. Some high passes close in winter or after snowfall, and your driver chooses the open route on the day.

  5. Day 5

    A day around Cortina

Lake Misurina, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, or the cable cars above Cortina. Or simply the shops and cafés of the Corso Italia. A day with little or no driving.

  6. Day 6

    Cortina to Innsbruck

    Driving: about 3 h, 161 km

North into Austria. Innsbruck's old town, with the Golden Roof, sits right under the mountains, and the Nordkette cable car rises from the city centre.

  7. Day 7

    Innsbruck to Milan

    Driving: about 5 h 05 min, 392 km

Back over the Brenner and down to Milan, with a lunch stop on the way, perhaps at Lake Garda. The tour can also end in Verona or Venice if your flight leaves from there.
