Five villages, very few roads
The Cinque Terre villages were built for boats and footpaths, not cars. The centres are closed to traffic and the roads above them are narrow, so the real question is where your car can stop. Monterosso, the largest village, is about 230 km from Milan and has a seafront car park within walking distance of the hotels; for Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore guests usually continue by local train or boat with light bags. Send us your hotel and we plan the best handover point, including La Spezia or Levanto if that works better. Hotels on our list include Hotel Porto Roca above Monterosso and the Grand Hotel Portovenere on the gulf nearby. The V-Class suits families; the S-Class suits two. From Malpensa the drive is around three and a half hours.
