Driving times are Google Maps estimates for a weekday in normal traffic. Every day can be changed: the route below is a starting point.

Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Milan to Florence

    Driving: about 3 h 30 min, 312 km

South on the A1 across the Apennines to Florence. Much of the historic centre is a limited traffic zone; we check in advance how close the car can get to your hotel.

  2. Day 2

    A day in Florence

The cathedral and its dome, the Uffizi, the Ponte Vecchio and the Oltrarno. Museums are best booked ahead. The car is available for a drive up to Fiesole or Piazzale Michelangelo at sunset.

  3. Day 3

    Florence to Siena through Chianti

    Driving: about 1 h 10 min direct, 78 km

The direct road takes about an hour; most guests take the slower way through the Chianti villages and a winery visit, arriving in Siena in the afternoon. Siena's shell-shaped Piazza del Campo is one of the great squares of Italy.

  4. Day 4

    Siena to Montalcino

Driving: about 50 min, 41 km

South into the hills to Montalcino, home of Brunello. Tastings are by appointment, and with a driver everyone can take part.

  5. Day 5

    The Val d'Orcia

A day in the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO-listed landscape of cypress roads and hill towns: Pienza, Bagno Vignoni with its thermal pool in the main square, and the Romanesque abbey of Sant'Antimo.

  6. Day 6

    Montalcino to Rome

    Driving: about 2 h 45 min, 207 km

South to Rome, with the drive ending at your hotel. Central Rome also has traffic restrictions, and we plan the drop-off with the hotel.

  7. Day 7

    Rome, and onward

Driving: about 40 min to Fiumicino airport

A last morning in Rome, then the transfer to Fiumicino for your flight, or the tour simply ends at your hotel.
